"If you are still in the process of raising children, be aware that the tiny fingerprints that show up on almost every newly cleaned surface, the toys scattered about the house, the piles and piles of laundry to be tackled will disappear all too soon and that you will—to your surprise—miss them profoundly." - Pres. Thomas Monson

Derek's First Day of School

I've been looking forward to this day, which is a totally opposite emotion from this post. The boys are getting bored at home and I think school will help. (I still could have used a couple more weeks though.) Derek's birthday is a week from the deadline (Sept. 1) to enter Kindergarten. I put him in when he was 4 and I've always felt like I should have put Derek into school a year later. So with the new school and new neighborhood, we put much thought and prayer into it and decided to put him into First Grade again this year. I think he'll enjoy being the oldest in his class instead of the youngest. He seemed happy to go to school on his first day, and came home happy with reports of new friends already. He told me that his teacher "is young and nice, so young teachers must be nicer than older ones". (His last one was older and a little short-tempered.) He also told me that his teacher is as nice as I am. Ahhh... But there is already trouble and it is very serious. Listen to this..."There are kids blocking the tunnel slide!! And it gets very hot in there!" I'll take this kind trouble versus the teenager kind any day. :)

Is that an actual lunch box? I haven't seen one of those in years. 1st Grade rocks! Do you think I could have had Dallin repeat 6th grade? I sure wish I could have - his friends are all in 6th grade, junior high would have been postponed for one more year, and I'd have my kids in the same school longer. (Sigh)

It's an insulated lunchbox...not made of metal or anything. :)

So why didn't you hold him back?

Wow, 1st grade seems scary to me! Preschool is about all I can handle right now!
I hope you guys have a fun time in Yellowstone, it's one of my FAVORITE places!

I actually remembered your address and just looked through your recent posts. Your trip to Disneyland looks awesome! We went last year and ran into Jack Sparrow twice. :) Our boys did Jedi training, too, which was my highlight.

So glad you moved here. Now you can also have my blog, which is also linked to Leslie's and Liz's, so you can get to know some of your new neighbors. :)
