"If you are still in the process of raising children, be aware that the tiny fingerprints that show up on almost every newly cleaned surface, the toys scattered about the house, the piles and piles of laundry to be tackled will disappear all too soon and that you will—to your surprise—miss them profoundly." - Pres. Thomas Monson

Best. Mother's Day. Ever.

The truth is...I haven't had many great Mother's Days. I realize now that I am to blame for that. Somewhere I came up with my vision of what Mother's Day ought to be. I dreamed it up as being a day off from motherhood. With those kind of expectations it's no wonder I am disappointed year after year. And it is never my husband's lack of trying...because he does.

This year was different. I had no expectations what so ever. Dave was scheduled to work, so I knew that I wouldn't be getting the royal treatment. Boy was I pleasantly surprised! My kids sure stepped up and did a fabulous job. Derek woke me up asking what I'd like for breakfast and it was delivered to me in bed.

Taylor even brought McKenna breakfast in bed. (Notice the missing glass of water...oh, that was spilled immediately on my bedspread.)

After breakfast, I came downstairs to find a present from Dave...A bike trailer! McKenna was just as excited as I was. She will enjoy that princess carriage. The kitchen table held a beautiful vase full of flowers! Yay! The best part of the day was that the kids all got along well. Honestly, that was the best present. After church Dave BBQed a yummy dinner. I loved the entire day. I need to read this post again before the next Mother's Day...the secret: expect nothing. :)

My pretty flowers!

I live my whole life with no expectations. Some say I'm a pessimist, but I'm just a realist. Sometimes I get what I expect - nothing - and I'm never dissappointed. Other times, when something unexpected good happens, I'm pleasantly surprised. I'm sure this doesn't always work, like expecting great things from my family, but for special occasions it's the only way to go. Glad to see some more posts - keep 'em coming.
