"If you are still in the process of raising children, be aware that the tiny fingerprints that show up on almost every newly cleaned surface, the toys scattered about the house, the piles and piles of laundry to be tackled will disappear all too soon and that you will—to your surprise—miss them profoundly." - Pres. Thomas Monson

How Do You Do It??
I could use your help. How do you get your kids to work? I need ideas for motivating kids to help around the house. What do you do? Any great chore charts that work for you?
last week we started having a "Special Helper" everyday (different kid everyday), and my kids have totally gone nuts over it. Bradley especially which is such a surprise to me since lately he's done squat without me nagging him a million times, but the special helper gets special benefits too, so that's kinda fun- it helps me to focus on one kid a day too like I have been wanting to do- not that I don't focus on the others, but it lets me spoil one kid ya know- anyway- I think that the key is to change it up every once in a while- use the idea till it wears out, and then throw it away and get a new one, whether it's a chart, or game- you know- how's that for some advice- advice from a crazy woman, who knows what it's worth :)
My kids are young, so I just focus on letting them enjoy helping. Whenever they ask, I say yes. Usually they make the job take longer rather than really helping, but it's an investment, I hope. So far so good!
Also, the last few months I've been using this program called Miracle Music. It's been heaven! The biggest benefit is that it keeps me on track! The woman who developed just sent it to me because my mom did her a favor, so that's why I did it in the first place, but I would totally spend the money on it (it's only $20 for the CD) now that I've been doing it. Check it out at: http://www.childrensmiraclemusic.com/
On the verge of sounding sacraligious (sp?) am I the only one that sees the likeness of Jesus in ths soap bubbles on the pan Derek is washing? Thought I'd point that out.
A friend of mine recommended putting marbles (or those little stones you find at craft stores) into a cup. Each time you ask them do do something and they do it right away, they get a marble. they can also get marbles taken away (not minding, fighting, having to ask more than once). At the end of the week, they can turn in the marbles for 10 cents or save them up for something special. (Like a date with mom.) What ever works for them! My girls have liked this because they can see their jars filling up and it drives them crazy to take any out! But I know what works for some, won't for others...and it seems I'm always having to try new things after a while! Hope this helps! I'm excited to keep in touch through blogs!
So since my baby isn't even crawling yet, here's some tips I've learned from other moms! :) This one is PERFECT if your boys like video games of t.v. My friend has a list of chores that her kids can choose, and depending on the chore will determine how many minutes they will get with their video game or favorite t.v. show. So her son cleans and cleans so on Friday he can have his friend over and play video games 2 hours straight! It's really working for her son. However he daughter is a different story, she could care less about video games and t.v. so maybe she can earn $$$ points, and when she reaches her goal, she can go buy a favorite doll or dress. I'll let you know in five years how Lexi reacts to chores!! :) Till then, I'm glad you posted this, so I could learn a few tips myself!! :)

I'm not a pro at this yet, but chore charts are great bribers?! Break it down by weekly, then TREATS! You're good at those! Good luck.
Uh, yeah, let me know what you figure out!

Money! My kids get an allowance when they do their chores. It's not much but it is a good motivator.
Jeff, I see a howling coyote. Sorry, man.
