"If you are still in the process of raising children, be aware that the tiny fingerprints that show up on almost every newly cleaned surface, the toys scattered about the house, the piles and piles of laundry to be tackled will disappear all too soon and that you will—to your surprise—miss them profoundly." - Pres. Thomas Monson

Drum Roll Please!!

This project began on August 30th (not counting all the hours of previous research and drawing plans) and was completed on October 18th. It took all the free time Dave could gather. I regretfully admit that I was a skeptic in the beginning, but I LOVE how it turned out. I am so impressed with Dave's skills!
And here it is...the long-awaited bunk bed! This beautiful piece of furniture was designed and built by none other than our up-and-coming handyman...Dave B#*&$ (For security reasons. We don't need too many interests in his work quite yet. Ha ha.). The kids have been playing on it ever since Saturday night. It's been a great new form of entertainment for them. Dave and I are enjoying the peace and quiet in the living room. :)
Taylor has been sleeping in a little toddler bed and needed a serious upgrade.

I feel it necessary to give a big shout out to the Visnaw family. Thank you for letting us take over your garage Saturday after Saturday!!

I heard that Dave calls his creation "Bunker Beds" because they were built to withstand some serious rough-housing. They look pretty sturdy to me! I am impressed!

So, how did the first night in the new bed go?

Let's just hope this isn't a new way for Taylor to injure himself.

Natalie failed to mention that Dave actually measured, and tried to make the height under the bed big enough to allow him to be able to hide under it - only Dave.

Laurel, he doesn't remember saying it, but that's catchy! And yes, he did build this bed with the intent that there would be some serious play action.

Stephanie, the first night went very well! It's a great way to keep Derek in bed since he's a little nervous about climbing down in the dark. He just sends Taylor in to get us now. :( And yes, I am just waiting to see what kind of injury Taylor will get from this bed. It's a matter of when not if. Dave did plan on the bed being a bit higher than normal so that he could fit under it, but he miss measured. Too sad. He can barely squeeze under there. I have video footage if you want to see. :)

WOW! I am totally impressed! It looks so nice! I love how he even thought of future hide and go seek adventures and planned accordingly! What a fun daddy!

NICE WORK DAVE! Did you build this at your apartments or is that at the Visnaws? Disneyland for the kids, and family treasure with Dad's signature all over it. Impressive. . .ENJOY!!

I want to thank all who contributed to my first, and probably last, big wood-working project. First, my wife who was supportive with the plans and idea, until cost estimates were calculated...but conceded with my promises of saving $200 off store bought beds that really wouldn't hold up to any real play strain...ie "Kodiak Bear." Second, to the Visnaw's endless patience with me being a garage-hog for nearly 2 months and for their advice throughout...ie Leon's problem solving ideas, particularly dealing with how to modify the use of power tools to do unnatural wood cuts with great risk of life and limb. To Gary who lent me an assorted battle-bag of tools that made a huge difference...I'll return them to you soon, I promise. And to my kids for inspiring the completion of a grossly underestimated time-consuming project. Thank you everyone!
